Summary of Duties:
- Create models and algorithms to assist a team of underwriters in making lending decisions across the credit spectrum of small and medium-sized businesses.
- Investigate new data sources to determine the incremental predictive value of the new data relative to existing sources.
- Discover insights from untapped and unstructured data sources, translate findings into clear, actionable strategies and implement data-driven solutions for business enhancement.
- Research new statistical methodologies that may improve the performance of our credit risk scoring models.
- Utilize and create ETL pipelines to ingest data from external parties and create interface to communicate model/analysis results with backend systems. Implement rigorous data validation and cleansing processes to maintain high data quality standards.
- Collaborate with engineers to integrate data science tools to facilitate business operations and contribute to building an efficient and scalable infrastructure.
- Collaborate with underwriters to set loan terms for applicants given default risk, reflecting interpretation of a complex and diverse mix of credit and financial data.
- Forecast and monitor credit performance on the company’s loan portfolio, identify performance trends and implications for enhancing predictive tools, and communicate findings to senior management.
- Ensure that models and data handling adhere to regulatory requirements and ethical standards, as well as securing sensitive data.
- Conduct best practices for deploying models into production environments and ensure ongoing monitoring and maintenance to maintain expected performance over time.
- Utilize statistical and machine learning tools and be able to communicate technical findings to non-technical audiences.
Education requirements:
- Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Business Analytics or closely related field.
Experience requirements:
- 2 years of experience in a finance-related data science role.
Special Skills or Other Requirements:
- Telecommuting is permitted.
Must have gained the following skills through work experience or education:
1. Experience with PostgreSQL or MySQL.
2. Experience with R or Python.
3. Experience with explainable machine learning methodologies.
4. Experience with Agile development methodologies.
5. Perform ETL, data mining, data analysis and data visualization.
6. Perform AWS or other similar cloud platforms.
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
